Orofacial Myology

Orofacial Myology--what is it?

Orofacial Myology is “the study and treatment of the oral and facial muscles as they relate to speech, dentition, chewing/bolus collection, swallowing, and overall mental and physical health.”

Holtzman, S. R. (n.d.). Orofacial Myology--the Missing Link. Retrieved April 4, 2022, from https://orofacialmyology.com/

Certified Orofacial Myologists are dentists, orthodontists, registered dental hygienists, speech-language pathologists, or medical doctors who have sought out specialty training and certification in Myofunctional Therapy. Orofacial myologists are trained in addressing problems in orofacial muscles and working with the patient to retrain the muscles to function as they should.
