Thesis Tips

Submitting Your Thesis

After you have successfully defended your thesis and have received final approval of your written thesis from all of your committee members, you will send a Word copy of your thesis to Janet Fenske for review.

Some things to check before you send:

  • Spell check your paper
  • Check for "orphaned" headings or subheadings (heading/subheading at the bottom of a page; corresponding paragraphs begin on next page)
    • To correct, add page break before heading/subheading
  • Reference lists and in-text citations must be in AMA 11th ed. format--be consistent!
    • Journal titles
      • Abbreviated using NLM's approved abbreviation.
      • Italicized
      • Title-case capitalization (each major word in the journal title capitalized)
    • Article titles
      • Sentence-case capitalization (only the first word capitalized, plus any proper noun or acronym.
      • Article titles are NOT in italics.
    • Book Titles
      • Italicized
      • Title-case capitalization (each major word in the journal title capitalized)
    • Book Chapters
      • Sentence-case capitalization (only the first word capitalized, plus any proper noun or acronym.
      • Book chapter titles are NOT in italics.

  • Turn off comments and tracking!

AFTER document review/revision with Janet Fenske, then we will schedule a meeting to submit your thesis to ProQuest. The process takes only 15-20 minutes.
